An impressive large specimen of Conus prometheus, a distinctive West African cone shell belonging to the Conidae family.
Measuring 154 mm and weighing 305 g, this specimen has a strong, broad-shouldered form with a long tapering body whorl and narrow aperture. The shell displays an attractive pattern of warm brown, ochre and chestnut markings over a pale cream background, arranged in irregular axial streaks and broken bands.
The upper surface and shoulder show especially strong patterning, while the pale aperture creates a clean contrast with the richly decorated exterior. Its substantial size and balanced proportions give the shell a particularly strong decorative presence.
Originating from Gabon, this is an attractive collector specimen combining large dimensions, characteristic West African provenance and bold natural coloration.
