An attractive single Diplomystus fossil fish preserved on a compact limestone slab from the famous Green River Formation in Wyoming, USA, dating to the Eocene Epoch, approximately 50 million years ago.

This specimen is especially appealing for the strong definition of the body and skeletal structure, with the vertebral column, ribs, dorsal fin and tail clearly visible. The fossil displays warm amber and brown tones that stand out beautifully against the pale, finely textured matrix.

The fish is preserved in a natural lateral position, allowing its characteristic deeper body shape to be easily appreciated. Diplomystus was a freshwater predatory fish that inhabited the ancient lakes of the Green River ecosystem, and fossils such as this offer a fascinating glimpse into one of North America’s most important prehistoric lake environments.

Compact, well balanced and highly decorative, this slab is an excellent choice for both fossil collectors and natural history displays.
