An impressive specimen of Haliotis rufescens, the Red Abalone, one of the largest and most iconic members of the Haliotidae family.
Measuring 195 mm and weighing 485 g, this shell has a substantial, heavy form with a broad oval profile and the characteristic row of open respiratory holes along one side. The exterior displays rich natural tones ranging from reddish brown and copper to soft pink and cream, with pronounced growth lines creating a beautifully layered surface.
The species is native to the Pacific coast of North America and is especially associated with California. Large specimens such as this are particularly striking for their size, robust structure and strong natural coloration.
