A charming fossil fish slab featuring two Knightia specimens from the celebrated Green River Formation in Wyoming, USA, dating to the Eocene Epoch, around 50 million years ago.

The composition is especially attractive thanks to the presence of two separate fish preserved on the same limestone slab. The larger specimen occupies the lower part of the matrix and shows a clearly defined body outline, vertebral column, ribs and tail. Above it, a second, more delicate fish is preserved in a slightly diagonal position, creating a natural layered composition.

Knightia was a small freshwater schooling fish that lived in the ancient lake systems of the Green River region. The extremely fine sediments of these lakes created ideal conditions for fossilization, allowing fragile skeletal structures and subtle anatomical details to survive for millions of years.

The pale, finely textured limestone provides a beautiful contrast with the warm brown and golden tones of the fossils, while the irregular edge of the slab preserves part of its natural character.
