A striking Cleoniceras sp. ammonite fossil from Madagascar, carefully carved and polished to reveal the remarkable architecture hidden within its ancient shell.

The worked opening transforms the ammonite into a particularly sculptural specimen, exposing the intricate suture patterns that once marked the internal chambers of the shell. Delicate, almost lace-like lines spread across the surface, creating a fascinating contrast with the strong spiral form and pronounced natural ribbing.

Polishing brings out a rich palette of amber, caramel, chocolate brown and smoky grey tones, while the lighter mineralized sutures trace complex organic patterns across each specimen. As visible in the examples, every ammonite develops its own combination of colour, markings and carved profile, making each piece naturally unique.

Dating to the Cretaceous Period, Cleoniceras ammonites are the fossilized remains of extinct marine cephalopods that inhabited ancient seas millions of years ago. Here, the combination of natural fossil structure and skilled craftsmanship creates an object that sits beautifully between paleontological specimen and natural sculpture.

An impressive piece for a fossil collection, cabinet of curiosities or sophisticated interior, where its graphic spiral and extraordinary surface detail can be appreciated from both a scientific and decorative perspective.
