These Cleoniceras sp. ammonites from Madagascar offer the same intricate fossil detail and sculptural appeal of the larger specimens in a more compact 9–14 cm size range.
Each ammonite has been carefully carved and polished to accentuate its natural spiral form, while selected areas of the shell are worked to reveal the beautifully complex suture patterns hidden within. These fine, branching lines create an almost botanical or lace-like decoration across the surface, contrasting with the stronger ribbing and growth structures of the fossil.
As shown in the examples, the specimens can vary considerably in appearance, ranging from warm honey and olive tones to deeper brown and smoky shades. Natural mineralization, preserved shell structure and the carved openings make every piece distinctly individual.
Dating to the Cretaceous Period, Cleoniceras ammonites are fossilized remains of extinct marine cephalopods that inhabited ancient seas millions of years ago. Their unmistakable spiral geometry and richly patterned surfaces make them fascinating both as collectible fossils and as small natural sculptures.
Perfect for a cabinet of curiosities, fossil collection, bookshelf or curated interior display, these smaller specimens are easy to place while still offering exceptional visual detail.
