An impressive specimen of Chelycypraea testudinaria, traditionally known as Cypraea testudinaria, a striking member of the Cypraeidae family. The accepted name is currently Chelycypraea testudinaria.

Measuring 122 mm and weighing 120 g, this is a substantial shell with an elongated, strongly inflated form and the naturally glossy surface characteristic of cowries.

The dorsum displays a rich combination of very dark brown, burgundy and almost black tones, broken by contrasting cream-white patches and numerous tiny pale speckles. These markings create a deep, complex pattern reminiscent of tortoiseshell, which gives the species its common name, Tortoise Cowry.

The specimen originates from Madagascar and combines impressive size with particularly deep coloration and strong visual contrast, making it an attractive piece for a specialist cowry collection or refined natural-history display.
