An exceptional XXL specimen of Zoila rosselli latistoma, a highly distinctive Australian cowry prized by specialist collectors for its rarity, impressive proportions and striking coloration.
Measuring 63.2 mm and weighing 30 g, this is an unusually large specimen, originating from an older collection. It was collected by scuba diver off the Middle Island area, Western Australia, at approximately 25 metres depth, where it was found associated with sponge habitat.
The shell displays a superbly glossy surface with rich dark brown to burgundy margins surrounding warm amber and golden tones. Particularly striking is the large white dorsal window, creating a dramatic contrast and giving the specimen a strong, unmistakable visual identity.
The shell is graded F+++ and retains considerable collector appeal despite a healed natural imperfection at one extremity, clearly visible as part of the specimen’s history. Its exceptional size and characteristic pattern make it a particularly impressive example of this sought-after form.
A remarkable old-time specimen combining excellent size, strong provenance and the highly decorative appearance for which Australian Zoila are so admired.
